Awana

The AWANA club at Chapel Hill

“Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”, 2nd Timothy 2:15

Led by our Awana director Alisha Heifner, our Awana club members, ages Kindergarten-6th grade, meet throughout the school year in the Chapel Hill Shelter House on Sunday nights from 5:45 - 7:15 PM. If your child would like to be a member of a weekly church club in which they will hear a gospel message, learn God’s word and have fun, please have them join us! (Parents, you can hang out at the church, or leave your child with us.)

What is Awana?

Awana is an international organization with local programs spread across the world, helping churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Each week, more than two million kids ages 2 to 18 participate in Awana. The name Awana comes from “Approved workmen are not ashamed.” 2nd Timothy 2:15.

How does Awana work at Chapel Hill?

Awana meets directly in the shelter house for opening prayer, pledges, and songs. Chapel Hill’s learning groups are based on three curriculum categories, Cubbies, Sparks® and Truth & Training (also known as T&Ts).

Cubbies (Ages 3-5)

Cubbies celebrates the spiritual development of preschoolers (3-5 years old) by helping them develop respect for God, His Son, and His Word.
Creative learning activities encourage parent-child interactions at home. Weekly Bear Hugs include memory verses, Bible lessons and activities that teach basic truths about God, Jesus, sin and salvation.
Cubbies complete two years working through the Honey Comb book and the Apple Seed book.

Sparks® (K - 2nd grade)

Sparks ignites the curiosity of K-2nd graders to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. To many children, Sparks is the highlight of the week! They love their red vests, the exciting games and spending time with leaders and friends.
Sparks is divided into three years, each with a unique rank: HangGlider®, WingRunner® and SkyStormer™. Each year, Sparks clubbers:
• explore the biographies of people of the Bible from a new portion of Scripture
• memorize Bible verses
• complete handbook activities
The handbooks, combined with Large Group Time lessons from the WHO Do I Need to Know From the Bible series, take your child on a journey through the entire Bible.

T&T (3rd - 6th grade)

T&T engages 3rd-6th graders by teaching them the truth of God's word, training them to follow Him and practice His grace. T&T helps students grow and develop as lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.
Students will spend 4 years in T&T and each handbook contains 30 Bible studies, memory verses, extra credit opportunities, and a fun graphic novel about T&T Super Agents that students will get to read each week.
Students will work through Discovery of Grace, Grace in Action, Evidence of Grace, and Agents of Grace.
