The AWANA club at Chapel Hill

“Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”, 2nd Timothy 2:15

Led by our Awana director Courtney Clark, our Awana club members, ages Kindergarten-6th grade, meet throughout the school year in the Chapel Hill sanctuary on Wednesday nights from 6:45 - 8:15 PM. If your child would like to be a member of a weekly church club in which they will hear a gospel message, learn God’s word and have fun, please have them join us! (Parents, you can hang out at the church, or leave your child with us.)

What is Awana?

Awana is an international organization with local programs spread across the world, helping churches and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children and youth who faithfully follow Jesus Christ. Each week, more than two million kids ages 2 to 18 participate in Awana. The name Awana comes from “Approved workmen are not ashamed.” 2nd Timothy 2:15.

How does Awana work at Chapel Hill?

Our Awana children line up in the café area of the church at 6:45 pm and march into the sanctuary for an opening prayer and pledge of allegiance to both the United States and Awana flag. The next hour and a half is then comprised of learning groups and energy burning songs, dance and games! Chapel Hill’s learning groups are based on two curriculum categories, Sparks® and Truth & Training (also known as T&Ts).

Sparks ignites the curiosity of K-2nd graders to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. To many children, Sparks is the highlight of the week! They love their red vests, the exciting games and spending time with leaders and friends.
Sparks is divided into three years, each with a unique rank: HangGlider®, WingRunner® and SkyStormer™. Each year, Sparks clubbers:
• explore the biographies of people of the Bible from a new portion of Scripture
• memorize Bible verses
• complete handbook activities
The handbooks, combined with Large Group Time lessons from the WHO Do I Need to Know From the Bible series, take your child on a journey through the entire Bible.

T&T engages 3rd-6th graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ's grace.
Handbooks and large-group lessons deepen a child's knowledge about God and His Word and teach how to put that knowledge into action in everyday life.
T&T is different from other Awana programs. It is comprised of two clubs with distinct curriculum, uniforms and awards:
•T&T Ultimate Adventure™ for third and fourth grades
•T&T Ultimate Challenge™ for fifth and sixth grades
